Carol and Lisa from the Sharing Time team were delighted to surprise Colleen with flowers, a certificate and a celebratory cake to recognise her incredible 25 years of volunteering with Sharing Time.
During her 25 years of service, Colleen has befriended more than 20 older people, providing friendship, companionship and support to those experiencing loneliness and isolation.
Reflecting on her volunteering journey, Colleen said:
I treat each person I see as though they were my own parents. We share good times and bad, and we become good friends. I always look forward to my visits.
I like to give, but I get so much back from volunteering. I don't do it expecting anything in return, but it is so lovely to share my time with such wonderful people.
Carol Cook, Sharing Time Team Leader, said:
I wish I could clone Colleen! She has so much warmth, kindness and compassion to share. It's wonderful to hear how much pleasure these friendships bring her and how rewarding she finds the role.
Congratulations, Colleen, on this remarkable achievement, and thank you for everything you have done for Sharing Time and the people we support over the last 25 years.
If you have just one hour a week to spare and would like to visit someone who is feeling lonely, we'd love to hear from you. By becoming a Sharing Time volunteer, you can make a real difference to someone's life while building a meaningful friendship of your own.
